Science Research: As a Ford Foundation Pre-doctoral Fellow, I studied the how drought affects the interactions between plants and their soil microbes (bacteria & fungi) at the University of California, Irvine with Drs. Travis Huxman & Kathleen Treseder. Through this work, I have found diversity of plant communities, as well as soil microbial communities, improve ecosystem resilience to the effects of drought. Likewise, the diversity of STEM academic environments is essential in order to produce a resilient scientific community.

As my final dissertation chapters, I study marginalized communities and why they enter scicomm and scipol spaces to better inform training models. Diversity within science communication and policy spaces is rare, therefore, I aim for my study to highlight the importance of representation in these training spaces, as well as, the importance of diverse identities in creating safe learning and training environments.
